Hyaluronic acid binding analysis is important in investigating the causes of male infertility. Only mature sperm cells with developed hyaluronic acid receptors can bind to the surface of a plate coated with this substance. The binding reaction indicates the proportion of mature sperm cells in the sample (HBA %). HBA has been found useful in assessing the ability of sperm cells to fertilize oocytes and helps identify samples for which physiological intracytoplasmic sperm injection (PICSI) would be appropriate.
