During eyelid surgery, the incisions are made along the natural creases. Excess muscle may be removed along with the skin, and fatty deposits around the eyes can be reduced. After the procedure, the skin is sutured, and the incision area is covered with a special adhesive strip. Local anesthesia is most commonly used during the surgery, although patients may also choose intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. Eyelid surgery patients typically spend 3–4 hours in the day surgery unit, during which cooling packs are applied to the eyelids. For the remainder of the day, patients are advised to rest at home while continuing to apply cooling to the operated area. Sutures are removed 5–6 days after surgery. Swelling and bruising usually resolve within 2 weeks. The postoperative scar is barely noticeable, and patients can return to their normal daily activities.
