This method can be used when a partner is diagnosed with severe infertility due to poor sperm quality, including insufficient count, abnormalities, or low motility. A successful intracytoplasmic sperm injection requires only a few viable, morphologically normal sperm cells. During this procedure, an embryologist in the fertility laboratory selects morphologically suitable sperm cells and, using a very thin needle, injects a single healthy sperm into each egg to initiate fertilization.
