Egg freezing involves the process of collecting, freezing, and storing a woman’s eggs (oocytes) for future use. It provides women with the opportunity to preserve their eggs so they can be used later if natural conception becomes difficult due to illness or other factors. The success of egg freezing depends on several factors, most importantly age. Eggs from younger women (ages 20–30) are more likely to survive thawing, be successfully fertilized, and implant compared to eggs frozen at a later age. Overall success rates for frozen eggs range from 5% to 12% per egg.
