Ultrasound examination

Ultrasound is most often used to investigate unexplained abdominal pain, diagnose thyroid diseases, and examine joints, kidneys, liver, and other internal organs. A referral may be made by a family doctor, but a referral is not necessary for this examination. Usually, detailed instructions are given before the test. Sometimes the test is performed immediately, and sometimes you may be asked to drink several glasses of water. The examination may take up to 10-15 minutes.
