Before liposuction begins, the targeted areas are infiltrated with a solution containing local anesthetics and adrenaline. This reduces bleeding during the procedure and ensures easier pain control afterward. Through small surgical incisions, a liposuction cannula is inserted under the skin. The surgeon removes fat in a sweeping motion at various depths beneath the skin. This allows the removal of anywhere from several dozen milliliters to several liters of fatty tissue. During the first few days after surgery, rest is recommended, and pain medication can be used if necessary. For 1–2 months, it may be necessary to wear a compression garment or specialized elastic pants to reduce swelling in the treated areas. The final results of liposuction are visible only after the swelling subsides, which can take several months.
