Blepharoplasty – A Subtle Path to a Brighter Gaze and Renewed Confidence

Dec 8, 2025Plastic surgery5 min to read

Our face is often the first thing people notice – our personal calling card – and our eyes can reveal more about us than any words ever could. However, as the years go by, even the brightest gaze can lose its vitality. According to Dr. Arnas Martinėlis, a plastic surgeon at the “Beauty Academy” clinic, people often begin to feel the way they look – tired, gloomy, even if their inner state tells a different story. This is not only an aesthetic concern, but also an emotional one.

Today, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is no longer just about chasing youth. It is a refined way to rejuvenate the face, restore a rested, radiant look, and reestablish harmony between how we feel on the inside and how we appear on the outside. It's a modern solution for those who want their eyes to shine with energy once again.

Why Is Our View on Eyelid Surgery Changing?

The eye area is often the first facial zone to reflect fatigue, stress, or signs of aging. Over time, the eyelids droop, tissues lose elasticity, collagen levels decrease, the skin thins, and so-called "bags" form under the eyes.

Declining skin quality — dryness, fine lines, pigmentation — further enhances the appearance of a tired gaze. This is not only an aesthetic issue, but also a functional one — in some cases, the upper eyelids can interfere with vision, making it more difficult to drive, read, or work on a computer. This is not just a cosmetic enhancement — it’s about improving visual function and quality of life. And, naturally, the aesthetics follow: the gaze opens up, the face looks less tired, more alive.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

This procedure is ideal for individuals who:

  • Have sagging, excess, and wrinkled skin in the upper eyelid area.

  • Complaining of puffiness and visible "bags" under the eyes.

  • Notice and feel that the eyelid skin is obstructing their vision.

  • Want a more alert, youthful, and energized appearance

How Is Blepharoplasty Performed?

It all begins with a thorough consultation. During this visit, we assess the condition of your eyelids, the amount of excess skin, your visual field, and your personal expectations. If the surgery is planned for functional reasons, additional tests (such as a visual field test) may be recommended.

Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty:

An incision is made along the natural crease of the upper eyelid. Through this incision, excess skin — and sometimes fat — is removed. The incision is closed using very fine sutures, leaving a scar that is virtually invisible once healed.

Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty:

Depending on the case, the incision is made just below the lash line or inside the lower eyelid. Fat deposits may be removed or redistributed, and excess skin and muscle tissue are trimmed as needed.

The procedure is done under local anesthesia or general anesthesia and takes about 1 to 2 hours. Scars are hidden in natural folds and fade significantly over time.

What Should You Expect After Surgery?

Though blepharoplasty is a relatively small and quick procedure, the post-op period requires responsible care:

  • Swelling or bruising may occur in the first few days — this is a normal part of healing.

  • Sutures are usually removed after 5–7 days, and final results are visible within a few weeks.

Long-Term Results & Quality of Life

The results of blepharoplasty are long-lasting — often 10 to 15 years or more. While it doesn’t stop the natural aging process, it can significantly rejuvenate your appearance, to restore a more open gaze and even improve vision if drooping skin was obstructing it.

Many patients report feeling more confident, refreshed, and satisfied with their appearance after surgery. And that emotional lift? It often leads to better quality of life — both socially and professionally.

Blepharoplasty is not just a matter of aesthetics. It’s about a person’s desire to reclaim what time has taken away – an open, youthful gaze.
